The Society of Saint Yves was founded expressly to help the poor and oppressed, in line with the social doctrine of the Catholic Church.
When the Society was founded in January 1991, the members chose Saint Yves as the patron saint since he, a lawyer, opted to leave the bench in order to serve the poor in judicial matter. The Society has also a motto saying “I am my brother’s keeper”, to underline the will to treat each as brother and sister, without regard to race, creed or colour, as a sign of faithfulness to Jesus’ teaching.
The Society offers a framework for lawyers to use their professional skills in service to our brothers and sisters in need. The Society manages some five hundred cases per year.
