The first election of the General Assembly of the Focolare Movement took place in Rome, last Tuesday, on July 8th, 2008, where Maria Voce was elected as the new president, after Chiara Lubich, the founder of the movement, who died on the 14th of March. Also, Gaincarlo Faletti was elected as the new co-president. |

A ceremonial mass was held on the July 1st, 2008 in the Jish village in Galilee, for the inauguration of Pauline Jubilee Year dedicated to Saint Paul, which runs through 29 June, 2008.The former Patriarch Michael Sabbah concelebrated the mass, along with his Eminence Elias Chacour, Greek Melkite Catholic Archbishop of Akko, along with his Eminence Giancinto-Boulos Marcuzzo, General Patriarchal vicar for Israel, and his Eminence Boulos Sayyah, Maronite Archbishop of Haifa and the Holy Land, together with parish clergy, and a crowd of faithful.The procession started preceded by the scout group along with Archbishops, from the Maronite Church to the Catholic one, where the mass took place. |

All Christians, have celebrated, with deep pleasure and joy, the installation of Archbishop Fouad Twal, who took his post as the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, succeeding the former predecessor Archbishop Michael Sabbah, who stepped down after reaching the retirement age of 75 according to the canon law. |

A ceremonial thanksgiving mass, to Patriarch Michael Sabbah was held on Sunday, 15th June, 2008, at St. Savior's Parish church. During the mass, the Patriarch conferred the Holy Orders of Lector and Acolyte, for the first time, to three parishioners of the Latin Parish of Jerusalem: Mr. Bassem Rafael Ghattas, Mr. Samir Fouad Hodaly, and Mr. Adel Elias Moghrabi. |

His Beatitude Gregory III inaugurated the Holy Synod of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, on Monday, 2nd of June, 2008, at the Patriarchal Residence in Lebanon. At the conclusion of the meetings, the Synod announced in a statement, a renewal in designations. Bishop George Baker, the Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem, was appointed as the new General Patriarch Vicar of the Diocese of Egypt and Sudan. As well as Bishop Joseph Zrei'i, the General Patriarchal Vicar of Egypt and Sudan, was appointed as the new General Patriarch Vicar of the Diocese of Jerusalem. |
