Thanksgiving Mass and Conferring of Minor Holy Orders PDF Print E-mail

A ceremonial thanksgiving mass, to Patriarch Michael Sabbah was held on Sunday, 15th June, 2008, at St. Savior's Parish church. During the mass, the Patriarch conferred the Holy Orders of Lector and Acolyte, for the first time, to three parishioners of the Latin Parish of Jerusalem: Mr. Bassem Rafael Ghattas, Mr. Samir Fouad Hodaly, and Mr. Adel Elias Moghrabi.

His Beatitude Gregory III inaugurated the Holy Synod of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, on Monday, 2nd of June, 2008, at the Patriarchal Residence in Lebanon.

At the conclusion of the meetings, the Synod announced in a statement, a renewal in designations. Bishop George Baker, the Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem, was appointed as the new General Patriarch Vicar of the Diocese of Egypt and Sudan. As well as Bishop Joseph Zrei'i, the General Patriarchal Vicar of Egypt and Sudan, was appointed as the new General Patriarch Vicar of the Diocese of Jerusalem.

The Episcopal Ordination of Fr. Dr. Ghaleb Bader, appointed from Pope Benedict XVI as the Archbishop of Algeria, is going to take place on Thursday, 17th of July, 2008, at 5.00 p.m. at the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Amman- Jordan.
New Patriarch Fouad Al-Twal will preside the celebration, along with the resigned Patriarch Michael Sabbah, together with the Latin Patriarchate Vicar Bishop Salim Sayegh, as well as the resigned Archbishop of Algeria Bishop Henri Teisseir, and a large number of bishops and priests.
Bishop Ghaleb Bader will celebrate his first Pontifical Mass, on Friday, 18th of July, 2008, at Mar-Elias Parish in his birth town, Al-Wahadneh, Jordan, at 10.00 a.m.

The Patriarch of Jerusalem, Michael Sabbah has visited the Hebrew-speaking Catholic community (Kahilla), last Sunday, the 1st of June, 2008, to celebrate a final mass in the community chapel in Jerusalem, for the last time, before retiring from the service of the Patriarchate that he has led for more than 20 years.

Message from the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land

Reverend Parish priests,
 Religious men and women,
 Dear faithful lay people,
Peace and blessing from God our Lord.
The Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has asked to all the Catholic Churches spread all over the world to consecrate one full year, from 28th of June 2008 to June 2009, to Saint Paul the apostle of the nations, to meditate his life and teaching.
All of us, we know that Saint Paul has lived, has studied and has learned to love the Word of God here in our Holy Land. In Jerusalem he has been brought to the civil courts and has met with the opposition of the religious chiefs of his time for he proclaimed his faith in Jesus, Christ and Lord, who died for the salvation of humanity and he rise victorious of the death and the sin.
